Back 2 School
Monday, 5 September 2022
Pupils across the Foundation have come back to School to start the new term in record numbers.
711 pupils across all three sites are looking forward to building on the excellent summer exam results.

Kieran McLaughlin, Headmaster of the 608-year-old Durham School, said that all A Level students should be proud of their achievements after the end of their GCSEs and most of their Sixth Form time was heavily disrupted by the Covid pandemic.

Coveted A*-A grades made up nearly half (48.8%) of all results for pupils at Durham School this year; 73.5% of results were A*-B.

The successful results will see 70% of pupils going to university achieving their first-choice destination. Of these, 85% will go to Russell Group universities.

Mr McLaughlin said: “It has been a torrid two years educationally for this cohort of students. I am incredibly proud of the resilience they showed working through such disruption to their studies due to the pandemic.

“They are the year group that sat A Levels having not faced previous external examination and their gritty determination to do their best has carried them through.”
